Realising the benefits of links, communication and cooperation with like-minded organisations, Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells set aside an annual budget to join patronage programmes and support music organisations in the UK. Many of these companies possessed a certain synergy with Independent Opera, focusing on the development of young artists.

Britten Sinfonia
We began working with the UK orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, in 2015. Known for their collaborative approach and desire to collapse the boundaries between old and new music, they were fine collaborators for our productions of Biedermann and the Arsonists and Simplicius Simplicissimus.
Our relationship was further strengthened through our collaboration on Joby Talbot’s new commission A Sheen of Dew on Flowers in 2019.

Wigmore Hall
The commencement of our Fellowship Programme began in collaboration with the biennial Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition. The Independent Opera Fellowship identified one exceptional singer from the competition with the potential for an international career in song and opera.
In 2019 Independent Opera became the official partner and sponsor of the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition, working with the Wigmore Hall to expand their reach, enhance the competition’s events and learning scheme, and continue its high standards and practices.
Wigmore Hall was also home to our Scholars’ Recitals, held annually between 2017-2020.
