Independent Opera Artist Support is a programme of Scholarships and Fellowships born of IO’s desire to support and champion artists at the outset of their careers, both on the stage and off.
Independent Opera Voice Scholarships are awarded annually to a singer entering their final year of study on a specialist opera course at IO’s partner music conservatoires.
- Guildhall School of Music & Drama
- Royal Academy of Music
- Royal College of Music
- Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
The Scholarship provides funding of £5,000 per annum towards course fees or living expenses, invitations to specialist mentoring and skills-building events as well as one-to-one mentoring with IO’s Creative Director Natalie Murray Beale.
Scholars are given the opportunity to perform in IO’s annual Scholars' Recital at the Wigmore Hall. The next recital featuring our 2018-19 Scholars takes place on Thursday 3rd October 2019, 7.30pm – click here for more details about our previous recital.
Following their graduation, Scholars join IO’s Voice Fellowship programme for a second year of support.
Selection for the award is via audition held at our partner music conservatoires in the spring and summer terms. All eligible singers are invited to apply.
Since the launch of IO Voice Scholarships, 60 singers have received support including notable recipients Anna Devin, Duncan Rock and Anthony Gregory. For a full list of our Scholars and Alumni click here.
