INDEPENDENT OPERA’s annual productions took place in November at the Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadler’s Wells. Our wide-ranging repertoire was designed to showcase new talent in all areas of opera production. INDEPENDENT OPERA encourages artistic freedom and risk-taking and backs this commitment with sufficient funding for each production.

Occasional concert performances, recordings and tours are undertaken based upon the success of a production. Examples include our June 2008 concert performance of Orlando at the Wigmore Hall.

In November 2008, it completed a four year cycle of full-scale opera productions in London with a production of Claude Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande in a new orchestration by the composer Stephen McNeff for thirty-five instrumentalists.
