Christopher Ainslie

Christopher began singing as a chorister in Cape Town, his home city. Since moving to London in 2005 he has had lessons with David Daniels and Ryland Davies and is now studying at the Royal College of Music with Mark Tucker. Christopher’s opera roles include Alessandro Tolomeo (2006 London Handel Festival), Arsamenes Xerxes (2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and The Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2002 Cape Town). On the concert platform, his performances have included a range of Handel, Bach, Schütz and Monteverdi. He regularly gives recitals in the UK and abroad, especially of early music, but also including works by composers such as Schubert, Vaughan Williams and Britten.

Before moving to the UK, Christopher qualified as a chartered accountant and was also active as a violist, playing and touring with the South African National Youth Orchestra. Christopher has received numerous awards to continue his vocal studies in Britain, including the Philip Carne Award, Mason Scholarship, Mason Award and a grant from the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust.

Forthcoming engagements include Handel’s Messiah in Cardiff and Cape Town, the title role in Handel’s Poro (2007 Handel Festivel) and Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Houston, Texas.
