IO announced as new sponsor of Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera International Song Competition

On Friday 6th October 2017, Independent Opera (IO) announced that it will become the new sponsors of Wigmore Hall’s International Song Competition.

IO’s relationship with the Wigmore Hall dates back 10 years to its first Wigmore Hall/IO Voice Fellowship awarded to bass Matthew Rose. He was selected from amongst the participants of the biennial Wigmore Hall International Song Competition formerly supported by the Kohn Foundation (1997-2017), and auditioned by IO’s Creative Director Natalie Murray Beale. Subsequent Wigmore Hall/IO Voice Fellowships have been awarded to Gaëlle Arquez, Clara Mouriz, Dominik Köninger, Anna Huntley and James Newby.

From 2019, the extent of the two companies’ relationship will be furthered with Independent Opera’s sponsorship of the biennial Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera International Song Competition, which will include Independent Opera’s Creative Director Natalie Murray Beale as a member of the jury.
