Clara Mouriz Mezzo Soprano

Spanish-born Clara Mouriz studied at the Royal Academy Opera under Noelle Barker, graduating in 2005 with Distinction and the Outstanding Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music. Awards include the RAM Vice-Principal's Award, the prestigious Richard Lewis Award (RAM), the Friends of the Royal Academy of Music Wigmore Award 2006 and the Audience Prize in the 2008 Handel Singing Competition. She has studied at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro with Alberto Zedda, the Sir George Solti Academy with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, the Cardiff International Academy of Voice with Dennis O'Neill and the Samling Foundation with Sir Thomas Allen.

Recent operatic engagements include Olga (Eugene Onegin) for British Youth Opera and Tirinto (Imeneo) for the Cambridge Handel Opera Group. Clara has sung La Marquesa Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and at the Spanish Mozart Festival.  She has appeared in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Rossini's La Cenerentola and Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea.

As a recitalist, Clara made her Wigmore Hall debut last season in a recital presented by the Kirckman Concert Society. She has sung at the Cheltenham International Festival, Juventudes Musicales and Quincena Musical in Spain. She has led workshops for Wigmore Hall's Education Department in Latin and Spanish repertoire and recorded Turina's Poema en Forma de Canciones for the Royal Academy of Music.

In 2008 engagements included recitals with Julius Drake at the Oxford Chamber Music Festival, Morgan Szymanski at Bolivar Hall and Joseph Middleton for the Kirckman Society, Westminster School and Wigmore Hall.  Clara's current engagements include Mozart’s Missa Solemnis with the Galicia Royal Philharmonic conducted by Ros-Marba, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gurer Aykal and the title role in Ariodante for the Cambridge Handel Opera Group.
