INDEPENDENT OPERA Artist Support, created in 2007, is a comprehensive programme of scholarships, fellowships, partnerships and patronage designed to continue the work of Independent Opera by providing ongoing financial assistance to young professionals involved in the production of opera. The programme of scholarships and fellowships has in the past been available to singers, directors, designers and choreographers, and is an integral component of the company’s objective: to give those involved in the staging and production of opera the support they need at the outset of their careers.

The Artist Support programme has included scholarships for individuals in the latter stages of formal training at major music colleges and postgraduate fellowships for artistic directors, designers and choreographers.  For singers, voice fellowships have been available for lessons / coaching sessions and, additionally, one Sponsored Artist Voice Fellowship has provided living expenses for the recipient.

From October 2009, the ongoing INDEPENDENT OPERA Artist Support programme includes Scholarships at six of the U.K.’s major music colleges, along with Postgraduate Voice Fellowships associated with those institutions.

Additional to the above, the WIGMORE HALL / INDEPENDENT OPERA Voice Fellowship is ongoing and offers the selected singer a two-year programme of mentoring by the Wigmore Hall, with benefits to include singing lessons, coaching sessions and accompaniment as well as career guidance on subjects such as agents, repertoire, concert venues, festivals and tours.
