
Anna Devin Soprano
Recipient of INDEPENDENT OPERA Vocal Scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama
Anna Devin studies on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Janice Chapman, having received a First Class Honours degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Colette McGahon-Tosh. Whilst in Ireland, Anna was a Young Artist with the Opera Theatre Company. She made her UK stage debut as Virtue and Damigella (L'incoronazione di Poppea) at Buxton Opera Festival and Aldeburgh Proms 2006. Other roles include Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and, as part of opera scenes at the Bridewell Theatre and the Guildhall, Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Bella (Midsummer Marriage), Sandman (Hansel and Gretel), Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea), Adina (L'elisir d’amore) and Serpetta (La finta giardiniera).
Concert highlights of the past year include Handel’s Israel in Egypt at the Brighton Early Music Festival, guest soloist on the BBC 3 Early Music Show, Handel’s L'Allegro at the Göttingen Handel Festival, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the London Handel Festival and soloist for the New Year Viennese Opera Gala concerts with the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Cleobury.
In competition her UK successes include the Audience Prize at the 2007 London Handel Singing Competition and the 2006 Thelma King Award for Young Singers.
For the Guildhall School, Anna's performances include Rezia (La rencontre imprevue) conducted by Nicholas Kok at the Guildhall School and The Anne Who Steals (The King Goes Forth to France) conducted by Clive Timms. She also performed Purcell’s Fairy Queen with William Christie at the Aix-en-Provence Academy.
Anna will be continuing her studies with the generous support of the Merchant Taylor’s Company Scholarship, AHRC, Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholarship, the Arts Council of Ireland and the RDS Music Bursary 2007.
