
Madeleine Boyd Designer
Recipient of INDEPENDENT OPERA Designer’s Fellowship
Madeleine trained in Theatre Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 2001.
Her recent opera designs include Costume Design for Peter Grimes at the San Carlo Opera House, Napoli; Set and Costume Design for Pelléas et Mélisande for INDEPENDENT OPERA at Sadler's Wells; Partenope for Opéra Les Azuriales, Cap Ferrat, France; La colombe and L’occasione fa il Ladro for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; The Sofa/The Departure for INDEPENDENT OPERA at Sadler’s Wells; Orfeo ed Euridice for Theatre Augsburg, Germany and La Gazzetta and La Scala di Seta for the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, Germany.
Madeleine's non-opera design work includes All about it for the Big Fish Theatre Company (touring show), and Rhymes, reasons and bombass beatz (Oval Studio Theatre). She was a finalist in the competition for the European Opera Directing Prize 2007 for her design concept for Rusalka, with Director Alessandro Talevi.
Productions in 2009 include Set and Costume Designer for La fedeltà premiata for the Royal Academy of Music, London; The marriage/La Cambiale di Matrimonio double-bill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Les Nuits d'Éte for Opéra Azuriales, Cap Ferrat, France and La Cenerentola for Malmö Opera, Sweden.
