
Natalie Montakhab Soprano
Recipient of INDEPENDENT OPERA Vocal Scholarship at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama
Iranian/English Soprano Natalie Montakhab studies at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She previously studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London and was choral scholar at St John's Hyde Park.
In her first year of opera school, Natalie played Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro. She shadowed Susanna and Gilda Rigoletto at Scottish Opera this season also singing Vixen The Cunning Little Vixen for Scottish Opera in collaboration with RSAMD. Natalie will look forward to singing Gretel Hansel und Gretel at RSAMD this June as her last performance at RSAMD.
Natalie made her debut as a solo artist in Prom 23 at the Royal Albert Hall BBC Proms last year. She has sung as soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Peer Gynt Suite), the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Bartok’s Village Scenes) and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (Dido and Aeneas) under Nicholas McGegan. Natalie has been a Britten-Pears Young Artist since 2007 and appeared as soloist in the Snape Maltings Concert Hall in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Masaaki Suzuki and in recital (Britten’s On this Island) with Sir Thomas Allen. Natalie sang in Samuel Barber’s Knoxville Summer of 1915 for Soprano and Orchestra with Perth Symphony Orchestra in November 2010 and will sing Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn's The Seasons and a recital of Vaughan-Williams songs this Easter. Natalie enjoyed masterclasses with Lisa Milne, Felicity Lott, Ann Murray and Barbara Bonney.
